SA Postgraduate Philosophy Society
Mission Statement
The South African Postgraduate Philosophy Society (SAPPS) is dedicated to fostering intellectual growth, community, and professional development among postgraduate philosophy students in South Africa. As a Society we aim to create a supportive and stimulating environment that empowers students to excel in their academic pursuits and contribute meaningfully to the field of philosophy in general. We are also committed to representing the voices of the South African philosophy postgraduate community at the Philosophy Society of Southern Africa by engaging with the Executive Committee of the PSSA and working with them to foster a positive environment for young academics in the field of philosophy.
Background
Established at the second annual Postgraduate Philosophy Symposium, SAPPS is a dynamic organization committed to supporting and developing young philosophers in South African tertiary institutions. SAPPS takes over from the former Philosophy Postgraduate Association and was created with the endorsement and support of the Philosophy Society of Southern Africa, SAPPS plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of academic thinkers. By organizing symposia, workshops, and other events, SAPPS provides a platform for postgraduate students to engage with leading scholars, present their research, and network with peers. Through advocacy and mentorship, SAPPS empowers students to navigate the complexities of academic life and pursue their aspirations within the field of philosophy. Currently SAPPS is run by an Executive Committee made up of Nathisvaran Govender from the University of the Free State, Tamia Moodley from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Gisela Diedericks from the North-West University.
